From craft drink enthusiasts to handcrafted gin makers, this is our journey. Dario, Filippo, Andrea and Francesco, we are four friends from the western side of Como Lake united by the search for flavours and unique products in our tastings.
In Spring 2021 the idea of creating our artisanal gin was born. Having acquired a 5-litre alembic still, a lot of patience and enthusiasm was expended. Try after try we developed our recipe, until we were able to entrust our product to a young but experienced distillery, Anonima Distillazioni. They are based in the Italian region of Umbria and that is where the production will take place. That’s how Göta Gin was born.
A Larian gin in word and deed. Göta gin comes from “göta”, that in dialect means “drop” and it recalls the way in which the distillate comes out from the alembic still, drop after drop. This reflects long rainy nights spent together creating our recipe.
Göta gin is a great version of London dry gin, inspired by classics that have made this distillation famous all around the world. The production method is through a column still with suspended botanicals, just like the best gins.
Complex and multifaceted, it links together warm and agrum notes with intense herbaceous sensations, crowned by an elegant floral allusion.
The penetrating balsamic notes of Umbrian juniper on the nose are mixed with the persistent herbaceous of thyme and olive leaves. The freshness of sweet mint opens the aroma and it is followed by the peels of lemon and bitter orange, which give a remarkable aromatic vivacity, finished with elegance by acacia flowers.
In the mouth the sip is full and satisfying, thanks to the use of the best cereal alcohol and the careful distillation process.
Citrus fruits and herbaceous essences dance on the palate, softened by the slight hint of mint. The rich juniper content gives the typical dryness and cleanness of the sip, encouraging a repeat sip. This in turn is capable of giving great satisfaction, both in purity and as a classic mixer for cocktails which will benefit from a more innovative gin.
The juniper berries of the Umbrian-Tuscan Apennines, where the best Italian juniper grows, have a high essential oils concentration, fundamental in Göta gin’s distillation.
Angelica root is the natural complement to juniper berries and it is used in the gin distillation through flowing steam as an aromatic and olfactory binding agent.
Intensifies the high limonene concentration present in juniper berries, ensuring a citrusy taste, freshness in the drink and a final dryness.
The citrusy component is enriched with orange peels from southern Italy. It guarantees a greater organoleptic depth to the final distillate.
The leaves of this plant, with recognised pharmacological and medicinal properties, give softness and a long and persistent herbaceous note to our gin.
The aromatic herb gives the distillate all its balsamic power, together with a typical herbaceous note of Umbrian thyme that sometimes hints at spiciness.
The sweet mint leaves bring freshness and grace to the whole and frames the herbaceous and citrusy notes of our gin.
Acacia flowers are used to confer a great overall softness to Göta gin, in order to soften the more acute sides of other ingredients.
